The Church’s role in Christianity

So. I’m going to make a bold, sweeping, broad brush statement. You don’t have to like it at all. In fact, many of you won’t. Whether you’re a church member, or former church member who is disillusioned, or a fledgling Christian getting involved in church.. I have something strikingly important to say. It is so basic, but also so often it is untaught. Even by the nondenominational and pentacostal churches who emphasize the power of the Holy Spirit. You ready? Time for a ride.

Stop witnessing, and don’t start again.

You heard me. Stop. You’re not following the scriptures on the matter of witnessing to begin with, so just stop. If you want to do God’s work of Soul winning, then you need His power to do it. Of everything that it is, Christianity is an Eastern Religion, which means it has a mystical part of it that involves the power of the Holy Spirit being poured out on each individual who will receive it.

And for the nondenoms and pentacostal, many of whom are charismatically inclined, I’d bet most of you only have sparks of God’s power in your life. Especially if I know you personally. I’ll get to y’all in a minute, as this applies to you as well.

All of you. Sit down. Shut up. And stop telling people about Jesus. Here is why:

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”

‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:15-18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.”

‭‭Acts‬ ‭1:4-5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things. And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭24:44-49‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Now. Not to be too harsh. Some out there are doing things in order somewhere I am sure. But most that I have heard of in the States, is not doing so. Jesus said that we would be witnesses, but to wait until the promise had come, of the baptism of the Holy Ghost. He made no exceptions to this.  No excuses will be valid for why you tried to do this thing without it. The time has come for the church to start returning to doing things how the scriptures say to do them. The promise wasn’t just for them all those years ago, but for as many as the Lord our God shall call. Which means the commandment to wait was also included there for us today as well.

Jesus tells His disciples to wait for power before going out to witness. Because first and foremost, we are to be in relationship with Him. Second, we are to have the power that He had when walking upon this earth in ministry. THEN we can go forth and be witnesses. Witnessing is not supposed to be something you go do. It’s something you’re supposed to be.

How can you bear witness without the signs that God promises to affirm you with?
