On this latest, Franklin Graham and his new boycott of Wells Fargo, I wanted to take a closer look at a few things. Let’s start with his own words on why he is doing this..
Have you ever asked yourself-how can we fight the tide of moral decay that is being crammed down our throats by big business, the media, and the gay and lesbian community? Every day it is something else! Tiffany’s started advertising wedding rings for gay couples. Wells Fargo bank is using a same sex couple in their advertising. And there are more. But it has dawned on me that we don’t have to do business with them. At the Billy Graham evangelistic association, we are moving our accounts from wells Fargo to another bank. And guess what– we don’t have to shop at Tiffany & Co., there are plenty of other jewellery stores. This is one way we as Christians can speak out-we have the power of choice. Let’s just stop doing business with those who promote sin and stand against Almighty God’s laws and His standards.
Alright. So there we have it. He makes a valid point. But with his new choice of banks, he has moved to an even gay friendlier bank. This one is the north Carolina located BB&T, which sponsored the Miami beach gay pride parade, not to mention being on record stating: “individuals and organizations that broaden our perspectives and strengthen the diverse fabric of our communities. That’s why BB&T is proud to be a part of this day of pride and celebration of the 2015 Legacy Couples.”
He is absolutely right in his statement. But he has neglected to stick to it, within days of making the statement.
Now, aside from the bank problem with what he has decided to do..
I did a little digging.
There are 379 employers and corporations that support gay rights, and have actively encouraged the supreme court to strike down the bans on it.
These include Facebook, Twitter, Google, YouTube, Amazon, eBay, Visa, and American Express.
These are companies he supports. His ministries accept payment through Visa and AmEx. But if he is going to go through with his boycott for the given reasons, he needs to include these.
Same goes for Amazon and eBay. He’s partnered with them to sell his books. But these companies support the same gay rights as Wells Fargo.
He spread his message of this decision via Facebook. And has a Twitter following. And a YouTube channel, and a google+ page.
We shall see if rubber meets the road. He has made a claim, and begun to move, but it hasn’t gotten him anywhere. He moved to a gay friendlier bank. And he and his ministries have since made use of all of these different companies products and services, still doing business with them.
But I beg the question; how is using a same sex couple adopting a child stuffing anything down your throat?
